5 Beauty benefits of castor oil

Castor oil is known to be embedded with medicinal properties and benefits. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant oil and is used for numerous beauty and health treatments. Easily available, it is beneficial ingredient for skin care routine. Here are a few common skin benefits of using Castor oil.

1. Hair

Castor oil prevents hair fall and promotes hair growth. Using castor oil regularly for hair massage makes hair healthier and shinier. It moisturizes the hair strands, removes dirt and dandruff from the scalp if used proportionately. To thicken your eyebrows and eyelashes, rub a little castor oil every night before going to bed. It is very useful for women who have lost the thickness of eyebrows due to excessive treading/ plucking.

2. Acne

Castor oil is also known for curing acne and dark sports left by them. It has anti bacterial properties that help get rid of pimple permanently, without drying your skin and without leaving any marks. Clean your face thoroughly and apply castor oil on the affected area. Leave it overnight and wash it next morning with warm water to get a flawless skin.

3. Skin moles

Moles are usually small dark spots on face and body, while some may find it natural and other may find it ugly dots on skin. If you wish to get rid of those stubborn moles off your skin without any laser or surgery, make a paste with a pinch of baking soda and a small amount of castor oil. Apply the paste on the mole and allow it to stay overnight. Apply daily until the moles vanish.

4. Sunburns

Too much is bad and same goes with unwanted sunburns. The effects of sun exposure is harmful for your skin in long run. UV rays which damages our skin, causes many skin diseases like skin cancer, rashes and pigmentation etc. To treat sunburn, soak a thin, loosely woven surgical dressing cloth (usually made of cotton) in castor oil and wrap/apply in the affected area. Repeat the treatment for 3 days to see the results.

5. Stretch marks

Stretch marks usually appear due to tearing of the dermis or stretching of the skin due to rapid growth in puberty, weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy and muscle building. To reduce stretch marks or to get rid of them, rub thick layer of castor oil over the affected area and wrap with a saran wrap or plastic sheet overnight until the marks are visibly reduced.

Please note that castor oil is very thick and using it in a proportionate quantity is advisable to avoid excessive oily skin or sticky hair.
